My Laundry Room Routine

Everything I use to make laundry day feel less like a chore and more like the most satisfying twenty minutes of my week, plus the little routine that makes it all worth it.

I am going to be completely honest with you. I used to dread laundry day. Piles everywhere, mismatched socks, that one detergent bottle that never quite closes properly. Then I actually sat down and built a proper system for it – the products, the order I do things in, the little ritual around it. And now it’s genuinely one of my favourite pockets of my week.

I am now the person who refills her laundry pods into a glass jar. That is how far gone I am.

Here’s why the reset worked for me:

It’s contained. Everything has a home – the detergent, the stain stick, the spare hangers. Nothing is a hunt anymore, which takes so much of the mental load off.

It smells incredible. A good scent booster and a nice room spray turn the laundry room into somewhere you don’t mind spending time, instead of somewhere you avoid.

It’s quick. With the right tools within arm’s reach, a full load – wash, fold, put away – takes a fraction of the time it used to.

It slows you down, in a good way. Folding warm laundry with a podcast on has become an oddly grounding part of my week. Very “put together adult” energy.

My Laundry Room Reset Routine It’s not just about washing clothes. It’s about what happens around it. Playlist on, laundry pods measured out into my glass jar, everything folded properly instead of shoved in a drawer. No rushing, no half-done piles left on the sofa for three days.

This is everything I use – the actual products, in the actual order I use them so you can build the same system in your own space.

Refillable Glass Laundry Pod Jar

This is where it starts. I decant my pods out of the plastic packaging into a glass jar with a wooden lid and it instantly makes the whole shelf look intentional. It also means I can see at a glance when I’m running low, instead of realising mid-wash.

Scent Booster Beads

This is the one product that gets asked about the most. A scoop of these in with every wash and the clothes come out smelling incredible for weeks after, not just on wash day. A little goes a long way.

Stain Remover Pen

Lives in my bag and on the laundry shelf. Genuinely saves clothes I would have otherwise written off. I keep a spare in the car too because life happens.

Wooden Non-Slip Hangers

I switched every single hanger in my house to these and it’s one of those small changes that makes a disproportionate difference. Clothes don’t slide off, everything hangs neatly, and the wardrobe genuinely looks like something from Pinterest now.

Large Lidded Laundry Hamper with Removable Liner

This replaced my old wire basket for good – 105L capacity, a lid that keeps things tidy and odour-free, and an inner bag that unclips so I can carry it straight to the machine.

Mesh Delicates Bags

For anything delicate, bras, or anything I don’t want mangled in the machine. I never lose small items anymore and everything comes out in much better condition.

Countertop Fabric Steamer

This one lives on the shelf above the machine and gets used constantly – not just for laundry, but for anything that comes out of the dryer slightly creased. Thirty seconds and everything looks freshly ironed without dragging out the full ironing board.

Room Spray for the Laundry Shelf

A small thing, but it makes the whole space feel like somewhere you’d actually want to be. I keep it on the shelf and give the room a spritz before I start folding.

This routine genuinely changed how I feel about laundry day. I went from a person who let it pile up for a week to someone who actively looks forward to that twenty minutes. It’s such a small shift but it makes the whole house feel more put together.
